Hiring Requirements

  • You are applying for an open position

  • Live within 45 minutes of our service centers in Timberwood Park

  • Pass a criminal background check

  • Be physically fit enough to clean for 6 hours a day, with an average job time of 2 hours

  • Work at a good pace

  • Be 5'2" or taller

  • Show coachability—ability to follow instructions and learn our cleaning methods quickly

  • Have a pleasant personality and the ability to get along with others. This is crucial—no drama queens, please

  • You must be able to bend down to each knee twice without struggle or assistance

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required to effectively manage customer interactions and internal communications.

Physical Requirements

If you have never been a professional house cleaner, here are a few things you should know:

  • You don’t have to be young. Some of our best cleaners are in their 60s.

  • This is an active job; you are constantly moving.

  • Cleaners report logging between 10,000 – 15,000 steps a day while cleaning. Health experts suggest getting at least 10,000 steps daily, so you'll definitely achieve that here.

  • You’re not going fast, but you can’t be slow. Most people struggle at first to reach an appropriate professional work pace. During training, you will learn the right pace to maintain while cleaning.

  • You will need to eat and snack throughout the day to fuel your body’s increased energy needs. This is not optional—it’s a rookie mistake to skip meals. Just like a professional athlete, if you don’t eat during the day, you won’t have the energy to perform well and stay safe.

  • You will be bending and getting down on one knee throughout the cleaning process.

  • The most physically demanding parts of the job are running the vacuum cleaner and mopping floors.

  • Some homes require extensive scrubbing to remove soap scum or stains from tubs and showers.

  • You will sweat, so be sure to wear comfortable clothes.

  • You will carry equipment and supplies into homes and navigate stairs.

  • It may take you a month to feel physically capable of doing this job. With time and practice, once your body adapts to this work, it gets much easier, and you can continue for as long as you like.

Other BIG Reasons you should Choose Us

Here are several compelling reasons to choose us as your employer.

We don’t clean nasty houses

  • If a home's condition exceeds a certain threshold, we will decline to clean it

  • Do we clean dirty homes? Absolutely, but not those that are excessively dirty. We have a clear and widely accepted definition of what we consider "too nasty."

We don’t tolerate bad customers

  • Customers who hover or watch you the entire time you clean

  • Customers who interrupt beyond reason

  • Customers who argue with family or friends in their homes

  • Customers who raise their voice

  • Rude customers in general

  • Any hostile work environment

The list goes on. Seriously.

Here’s the good news… It’s rare to encounter a difficult customer, but it can happen.

If it does, we have a process in place to protect our team. We’ve got your back. The office handles the customer so you don’t have to. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, we’ve got it covered.

The top reasons why people get fired

Why would any employer talk about getting fired when recruiting? Unlike typical maid companies, we’re here to create a supportive and rewarding work environment from the start.

Our turnover rate is only a third of the industry average. Many cleaners have told us this is the best place they’ve ever worked, and we’re proud to have team members who feel valued and appreciated. We’re always looking for ways to improve and welcome feedback to make this the best workplace for professional home cleaners.

Attendance

Around 90% of our turnover is due to attendance issues. Despite having one of the most generous time-off policies—not only in the maid business but across many industries—attendance remains the main reason people leave or are let go. New employees receive 20 days (or 4 weeks) off in their first year. Yes, 20 days! Most employers only offer 8-10 days in the first year, but we provide 20, accrued monthly. This means you gain 1.67 days (or 13.28 hours) of time off each month, equating to roughly 2 days.

If you think you’ll need more than 2 days off each month, full-time may not be the right fit. Part-time employees also have attendance expectations. We’re looking for dependable, reliable team members who can work within our generous time-off plan. If you can, you’ll have the opportunity to stay with us as long as you’d like.

Pace of Work, Quality Standards, and Coachability

About 10% of our turnover comes from those who struggle with work speed, attention to detail, or following instructions to deliver high-quality cleaning. These challenges often arise with people new to cleaning. It typically takes 2-4 weeks to learn to clean at a high standard, and once you’ve mastered it, the job becomes easier. It’s still hard work, as with any job, requiring focus, thoroughness, and a commitment to double-checking your work.

Not interested in professional house cleaning.

Most maid companies only hire people with experience because it’s hard to know if you’ll enjoy cleaning professionally until you’ve done it for a few weeks. Many new hires without experience leave within the first month—just as they’re starting to get the hang of it, and when the job becomes easier.

Professional cleaning isn’t the same as tidying up your own home or helping a friend. It’s physically demanding work, just like any other job, and requires sticking to a manageable but efficient schedule. We clean more homes than other maid services and maintain the highest standards. That’s why we’re looking for people who take pride in their work, enjoy cleaning, and value the benefits and support we provide to our team. This dedication to quality and employee well-being is why our customers love our service and why our company continues to grow.

Training & Onboarding Schedule

While many cleaning companies require experience, we’re here to support you from day one. With our hands-on training, you’ll gain the skills you need to succeed in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Day 1 & 2: Practical Training

All new cleaners start with Practical Training. During these two days of practical training, a trainer will be right by your side. They will demonstrate how to clean a room and then watch & coach you while you clean. We typically clean 3-4 houses a day so in two days you will get one-on-one training for 6-8 houses.

We’re looking for Work Speed and Coachability.

Work speed is about moving with purpose, not dragging your feet. As you get familiar with our cleaning techniques, your pace will naturally pick up, but working slowly isn’t an option. You should aim for a speed level of about 8 out of 10—consistent and purposeful. While speed matters, quality always comes first, and our training will show you the most efficient way to clean without burning out. So remember, rushing can lead to mistakes; a steady, efficient pace is key.

To see the right pace in action, watch the video of a cleaner from Maid Training Academy below working on a bathroom. Notice that she’s not rushing, but she’s not slow either. Her movements are smooth and she flows seamlessly from one task to the next. Skip to around the 9-minute mark and watch about 10 minutes to get a feel for the right pace.

Being coachable is essential here. We’re committed to teaching you, but it’s crucial that you follow and apply each technique exactly as we demonstrate. With the right mindset and effort, anyone can become a skilled cleaner by following our guidance.

The first two days of hands-on training help us see if this job is the right fit. In that time, we can usually tell if you have the qualities we need for success. Many people do. If it doesn’t seem like a match, we’ll know early, and your employment will end at that point.

Do you like cleaning, and do you want to give it a try? If you’re new to cleaning professionally, we’ll ask if you’re interested in continuing. Our aim is to hire people who enjoy cleaning, though it can take a few days to know if this is something you want to do long-term. By then, you’ll have a good sense of what this work entails. We clean homes—that’s our focus.

Day 3 & 4: Work on a 3-person team

You are cleaning by yourself but on a 3-person team. When you work on a 3-person team you are not in the home as long. These shorter job times help to ease you into the physical requirements of working normal durations and it gives you a few more days to get your work pace to where it needs to be to work on a normal team of 2 cleaners.

Day 5: Work on a 2-person team

You should be ready to work on a team at an appropriate pace.

Day 6: Maid Training Academy's Certification Program

They are the world leader in home cleaning training. This 8-hour program includes two classes both 4 hours long. It’s not hard but it is a lot of information. Everything you learn in these classes we use every day to clean houses.

Regardless of experience, all cleaners are required to complete Professional Cleaner Certification classes. This paid training will help you become a world-class home cleaner. If you have experience, you will be surprised how much you learn. Most veteran cleaners say about 30% of the information was new to them and very valuable. Like we say, if you’re good, we’ll make you better.

Day 7: Assigned to a Team

Once you are assigned to a team, your Team Leader will continue your training by providing you with written feedback every day.

Day 8: Internal Classes

Back in the classroom to learn more about Gleam Bee Cleaning Service, products we use, cleaning packages, and other procedures. Plus an ethics class, employee handbook class, and a safety class.

Cleaning is not hard if you have the right training and onboarding experience.
